“GUN AND ROSES ROCKER Slash Takes a Stab at ‘Deathstalker’ – The Epic Sword-and-Sorcery film as a COMIC BOOK!”

--

If you’re a fan of 1980s sword-and-sorcery films that brought us magic, mayhem, and plenty of scantily clad warriors, you’re in for a treat! The iconic cult classic ‘Deathstalker,’ produced by the legendary Roger Corman, is making a triumphant return – but this time, it’s jumping off the screen and onto the pages of a 21st-century comic book!

In a rock ‘n’ roll collaboration that’s as epic as any quest, Guns N’ Roses legend Slash has joined forces with Vault Comics to bring ‘Deathstalker’ back from the cinematic grave. With support from Shout! Studios and Raven Banner Entertainment, this comic promises to be a wild ride through a fantasy world like no other.

Tim Seeley, the creative genius behind horror comic ‘Hack/Slash’ and DC’s ‘Grayson,’ is wielding the pen for this adventure, while the talented Jim Terry will bring the art to life. If that dynamic duo’s past work on ‘West of Sundown’ is any indication, we’re in for a visually stunning and thrilling journey.

Remember that iconic poster by fantasy artist Boris Vallejo? Or the inclusion of Playboy model Barbi Benton and Lana Clarkson? ‘Deathstalker’ has a legacy of its own, even though it was part of the wave of budget-friendly fantasy films after the success of ‘Conan the Barbarian.’

For those who missed the ‘80s fantasy flick wave, ‘Deathstalker’ follows a heroic warrior on a quest for a magical amulet, chalice, and sword, all while facing off against the wicked ruler and sorcerer, Munkar. Along the way, expect ogres, epic warrior tournaments, and, of course, a healthy dose of bare skin.

Slash himself sums it up best:

“With fantasy, you get a little of everything: horror, magic, sex, thrills, blood, guts, swords, and weirdness. And that’s what we’re bringing.”

Vault Comics CEO Damian Wassel explains that this project aims to combine ‘80s nostalgia with modern storytelling sensibilities. It’s a fusion of the past’s “so-bad-it’s-good” fantasy filmmaking with the storytelling magic of today.

The comic adventure begins in October with a Kickstarter campaign for a deluxe, oversized hardcover edition. Then, in 2024, you can grab single-issue comics or trade paperbacks at your local comic book shop or bookstore.

Tim Seeley, reflecting on his ‘80s memories, said

“Deathstalker has been near and dear to my heart since I was completely disturbed and aroused by it at a far-too-young age.” It seems this comic is for the young at heart with an appreciation for epic adventures.

Jim Terry, capturing the essence of the ‘80s VHS era, shared,

“Being young at the birth of the VHS explosion was magic.”

Vault Comics, no stranger to sword-and-sorcery success with ‘Barbaric,’ has found the perfect companion in ‘Deathstalker.’ So, gear up for a thrilling, nostalgia-fueled ride into a world of swords, sorcery, and rock ‘n’ roll. ‘Deathstalker’ is back, and this time, it’s ready to conquer the comic book realm!
